Bangalore: A Testing Hall at the Selection Centre (South) in Bangalore has been dedicated in the name of the late Colonel Vasanth Venugopal, who was awarded Ashok Chakra posthumously. At a ceremony held on Tuesday, Ms. Vasanth unveiled and dedicated a 50-year-old hall in the memory of her husband, in the presence of his parents, an official press release said. Colonel Vasanth was commanding 9 Maratha Light Infantry and was deployed on the Line of Control in Uri Sector, when he was killed while fighting insurgents in Jammu and Kashmir on July 31, 2007. P.K. Chakravorty, Commandant, Selection Centre (South), felt that the local war hero should be honoured and given a place of befitting pride in the Selection Centre. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
