FKCCI announces export awards

Bangalore: The 42 organisations selected by Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) for the Export Excellence Awards, accounted for Rs. 48,000 crore exports in 2007-08.

Announcing the award winners here on Tuesday, FKCCI president S.S. Patil said, “Total exports from Karnataka last year was Rs. 1,20,000 crore, and manufacturing still forms 50 per cent of exports. The eligibility criterion for the awards was that the company should have exported at least Rs. 1 crore-worth of goods or services, with 15 per cent or more year-on-year growth. There were 91 eligible entries.” Among the winners, jewellery company Rajesh Exports Ltd. (with exports of Rs. 8,063 crore), will get the Star Exporter Award and Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) will be get the Best Services Exporter Award. For the first time, an exporter from a ‘most backward’ taluk — Sami Labs of Kunigal, Karnataka, which processes herbal extracts and exports L’Oreal of France — was chosen.

The awards are to be presented on June 20, in the presence of Karnataka Minister for Large and Medium Scale Industries Murugesh R. Nirani.
