Students of Auden High School taking out a rally on World Environment Day. BANGALORE: “O Captain, my captain,” probably were the words on the lips of every child at St. John’s High School as captains, vice-captains and prefects were given the mantle at the investiture ceremony held on Tuesday. It was a proud moment for the parents to see their wards made leaders for the current academic year. The programme started with a solemn procession of the new leaders into the auditorium. Principal Rani Rajkumar presented the captains and vice-captains to chief guest Ajit Kaikini, Director (Growth and Corporate Training), Buoyancee. They both pinned the badges on the new leaders. Ms. Rajkumar then administered the oath to all the office-bearers. Emad Abdul Ghani and Nehdiya Khan were chosen captains while Ajay Srinivasan and Mamatha Murthy are the vice-captains. In his speech, Emad, on behalf of all the leaders, promised to carryout the duties assigned to them and live up to the expectations of the teachers. In his address, Mr. Kaikini enthused the young leaders with his genesis of leadership – commitment, dedication and moral courage to stand up against wrong and a constant effort to protect the environment and improve the quality of life. He laid emphasis on academic excellence as well as all-round grooming and on the qualities of a good human being. “We have to invest in ourselves, in our stature, to reach the investiture. Just as the root of the tree has one focus, students need to aim high and focus on their goals,” Mr. Kaikini said. Vice-principal Chandra Abraham proposed a vote of thanks. Elected vice-captain Mamatha Murthy proposed a vote of thanks. RallyA plethora of activities marked the World Environment Day at Auden High School, Banashankari. A song “dear friend now with you lies a world that is polluted” sung by the children was impressive. Principal Shubha Madan planted a sapling. The children of classes 3 and 4 made paper bags and wrote letters to their parents urging them not to use plastic bags. Then the high school children took out a rally to create awareness on “clean and green” environment and urged the people to plant more trees. A placard said, “Plant more trees, get oxygen free.” \ Later, drawing, painting and eco-quiz contests were held. Sandalwood team won the first prize in the quiz. SSLC resultsMany schools of The Hindu’s Newspaper in Education programme continue to savour the success in the Secondary School Leaving Certificate examination. At The East-West School, Basavanagudi, all the 54 students, who appeared for the examinations have passed. Principal Anasuya Ramachandran said that 33 children have passed in first division with Madhurit. M.S. (95.12 per cent) emerging the topper. Prithvi S.S. and Sindhura P.R. have stood second and third respectively. Ms. Anasuya said that for the children, passing with good percentage was morale booster and schools must strive to motivate average and weak students. Students of Amara Jyothi English School, K.R. Puram have performed well. Prerana. N. is the school topper with 96.16 per cent while Deepthi Hegde (95.36%) and Snehal V. finished second and third respectively.
