Talwar to undergo polygraph test again

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: Dentist Rajesh Talwar, arrested for allegedly killing his daughter Aarushi and the family’s domestic help Hemraj in Noida, will be subjected to a second polygraph test on Friday.

Dr. Talwar was produced in a special court in Ghaziabad after completion of his judicial remand on Thursday. The CBI counsel pleaded for extension of his judicial custody stating that the agency needed to subject him to a polygraph test.

The dentist had undergone a polygraph test earlier, but experts advised that he be put to another round as the findings of the first test were inconclusive.

Counsel for Dr. Talwar opposed the CBI’s request for continuation of his judicial remand on the plea that no substantial evidence proving his role in the case had come up so far.

14-day judicial custody

After hearing the arguments, the court sent Dr. Talwar to 14 days’ judicial custody and also directed the Dasna jail superintendent to produce the dentist at the Central Forensic Science Laboratory, Delhi, for the polygraph test on Friday.

At a press briefing later on Thursday, CBI Joint Director (Special Crime) Arun Kumar said Vijay Mandal, the domestic help of Dr. Talwar’s neighbour, had been subjected to a lie-detector test.

The agency purportedly has come across “certain discrepancies” in his statement.

Raj Kumar, the domestic help of Dr. Talwar’s family friends Durranis, was subjected to a psycho-analysis test at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences on Thursday.

The CBI had on Wednesday examined the Durranis.

The agency also took the help of Dr. Talwar’s driver Umesh in identifying the places frequented by the dentist.
