Six-member panel formed to forge Hurriyat unity

Special Correspondent

SRINAGAR: A marathon meeting between the two factions of the Hurriyat Conference aimed at forging unity concluded here on Thursday with the constitution of a six-member committee to further dialogue on the issue. They also agreed to launch a protest against the government’s decision to transfer land to the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board.

After the seven-hour-long meeting, heads of both factions, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Syed Ali Geelani, told a news conference that they discussed all the issues pertaining to the “ongoing freedom struggle” in Kashmir.

Mr. Mirwaiz said the committee would look into all aspects of unity. Hurriyat leader Shabir Shah said it would see if the 1993 Constitution of Hurriyat needed amendments. Both sides vowed to continue the struggle in the interest of people.
