Empee Sugars sets up new unit

CHENNAI: Empee Sugars and Chemicals is setting up an integrated sugar complex with a capacity of 5,000 tonnes crushed a day (tcd) in Ambasamudram taluk of Tirunelveli district in Tamil Nadu. According to a release, the capacity of the complex is expandable to 8,000 tcd. It has a 50MW co-generation power plant. A portion of the power generated will be used for captive consumption to run the sugar and distillery operations. The balance will be exported to the TNEB grid. — Corporate Reporter
