MANGALORE: The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) will form booth-level committees across the State in preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. At a meeting for party workers here on Friday, party in-charge for the State Ashok Kumar Siddharth said they should strive towards creating a social revolution from the grassroots by forming local committees. “The committees will not only represent the party at these micro levels, but also work towards the emancipation of backward communities,” he said. “Ours is not just a political party. We are most importantly a force for social change,” he said citing social reformers such as B.R. Ambedkar and Kanshi Ram. He also expressed disappointment over the lack of support from the media during the recent Assembly elections. He said the media projected the elections as a three-way contest from the beginning, and in doing so, effectively excluded other parties from public space. He also charged the Congress with never showing interest in the welfare of the downtrodden masses of the country. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
