Murugan is chef de mission

Chennai: K. Murugan, Secretary, Volleyball Federation of India and Tamil Nadu Olympic Association, will be the chef de mission of the Indian contingent for the forthcoming Olympic Games at Beijing starting on August 8.

The formalities related to the nomination by the Indian Olympic Association have been completed.

Admitting that the appointment has been confirmed, Murugan thanked the IOA and, particularly, its President, Suresh Kalmadi, for the confidence reposed on him to carry out the important and demanding role as the head of the national contingent.

A former volleyball international and a proven administrator from the State to national level for over three decades, Murugan is keen to perform the role to perfection before and during the Games. — Special Correspondent
