Ghaziabad (UP): Dr. Upendra, an accused in the kidney transplant racket, was granted bail by a designated court here on Monday, exactly six months after his arrest from Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh. Special CBI judge Sapna Mishra Tripathi granted the bail to Dr Upendra on the condition of one personal bond and two sureties of Rs 1 lakh each. However, the doctor now lodged in Haryana’s Ambala jail, will not be released from judicial custody as some other cases are pending against him. Dr. Upendra’s counsel Ramesh Chand said he was granted bail as the CBI, probing the case, has not been able to file any chargesheet against him within 90 days. — PTI © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
