Two PDS rice smugglers detained

HYDERABAD: Two inter-State criminals, who were involved in smuggling of PDS rice since 2005, were detained recently under the Prevention of Black Marketing and Maintenance of Supplies of Essential Commodities Act.

According to a press release here on Monday from IG Taskforce , Vigilance & Enforcement Department, the duo, G. Satyanarayana, resident of Nandyal, and Attrambakkam Ayyappa/Ayyappa Reddy of Vatambedu village, Nellore district, maintained a network of couriers and agents. Their modus operandi involved buying PDS rice from FP shops, hoarding stock in godowns, getting transit passes from Tada checkpost and sales receipts from Chennai rice traders.
