Surya Teja case: SHRC directive

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: The State Human Rights Commission on Monday has directed the Alwal police to produce teenaged choreographer Surya Teja before Ranga Reddy District Child Welfare Committee.

The Commission Chairperson B. Subhashan Reddy directed the committee to admit the choreographer in any Children’s Home as the latter didn’t want to go to his parents. The committee was also instructed to ensure the teenager could pursue any profession of his choice.

Since the teenager’s parents presented certificates claiming he was a minor and Teja maintained he was a major, the SHRC directed the Committee to ascertain his correct age. It took up the case of Teja ‘suo motu’ following reports in media about his mysterious disappearance and return. Teja had returned within two days of his parents lodging complaint that he fled the house .
