Land scam accused denied bail

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: A court here has refused bail to a man accused of selling land belonging to the Uttar Pradesh Government in South Delhi at throwaway prices.

Additional Sessions Judge Vinod Kumar denied bail to Amit Vaid saying releasing him at this stage would hamper the probe.

Vaid, who runs a printing press at East of Kailash in South Delhi, was arrested on June 10 following registration of an FIR on the basis of a complaint by the UP Government’s Irrigation Department.

According to the prosecution, the accused had sold off nearly 250 acres, belonging to the UP Government, in the Ali Vihar area of South Delhi to various developers. Posing as the owner of the plot of land under question, he had attracted several people by distributing pamphlets in the area claiming that land was available at throwaway prices. Over a period of time, several individuals bought plots of land in Ali Vihar and constructed houses.
