Efforts to get MRI

VISAKHAPATNAM: Efforts would be made to get MRI equipment for the King George Hospital, one of the oldest and major hospitals of the country, Additional Director of Medical Education T. Raviraju said on Wednesday.

“It has been a satisfying and fruitful term as the hospital witnessed a lot of activity, two-thirds of its has been renovated and many facilities have been revived or added”, Dr. Raviraju told reporters after handing over charge to Deputy Superintendent M.V.R.J. Somayajulu, who has been promoted as Superintendent.

The Government had sanctioned and released several crores of rupees as fund so that many facilities could be created. Cardiac bypass surgeries are done for the first time, the open heart surgery unit has been renovated, a new cath lab has been installed to revive the facility after a gap of seven years, the two labour rooms and waiting hall in the gynaecology ward were renovated and air-conditioned, the acute medical care unit was developed and air-conditioned, the Rs. 1.5 crores trauma care unit was made ready and an additional sum of Rs. 5.6 crores was sanctioned to provide a CT scan and other modern equipment while 90 posts were also sanctioned, Dr. Raviraju said.

Among the other works done were improvement of the emergency operation theatre, intensive neonatal care unit, three additional ventilators, Rs. 1.6 crores worth emergency equipment like anaesthesia stations, etc.

Mr. Raviraju, HoD, Nephrology in KGH said he was also given additional charge of the department after being transferred to Hyderabad.
