Battery-operated mini-buses to operate in Sadar Bazar area of the Capital

NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Thursday said her government was giving serious consideration to plying battery-operated mini-buses in the densely populated Sadar Bazar area to provide traders an alternative to commute as other means such as buses are difficult to operate in the area. Inaugurating an office of the newly-formed Confederation of Sadar Bazar Traders’ Association, the Chief Minister said the battery-operated mini-buses would be fully pollution-free and noise-free. Appreciating the contribution of the trading community in making Value Added Tax (VAT) successful in Delhi, Ms. Dikshit said: “Due to huge collection of taxes, it has become possible to complete many developmental projects.”

She assured the traders that complexities in VAT and other labour-related forms would be removed to make the entire process hassle-free.

“The functioning of the Department of Trade and Taxes has become transparent and computerised,” she said, thanking the traders’ association for announcing that their office would be utilised as a permanent Bhagidari workshop centre to function as a bridge between the authorities and the traders.

Industries Minister Mangat Ram Singhal, local MLA Rajesh Jain and a number of trade leaders were among those present on the occasion.
