Steps to end video piracy: official

VISAKHAPATNAM: District Revenue Officer Madan Mohan Rao warned of stringent action against those who indulged in video piracy.

Presiding over a meeting of the anti-video piracy cell on Thursday, he said that the cell had been formed recently under the chairmanship of the District Collector to combat the problem of piracy.

The District Public Relations Officer (DPRO) would be the convener while the Superintendent of Police and representatives of the Film Chamber would be members.

He said that measures would be taken to end piracy in the district through the cell.

The cell would meet once in two months and review the situation regarding video piracy in the district. Mr. Madan Mohan Rao said that an appeal would be made to the Police Commissioner to take special measures for checking video piracy in urban areas and rural areas would be looked after by the district police under the supervision of the SP.

District Crime Records Bureau SI Ramana Babu said cases had already been registered against those indulging in piracy under the Copyright Act.

He said more number of piracy cases were registered in Bheemunipatnam, Anakapalle, Kasimkota, Narsipatnam, Payakaraopeta, Chodavaram, V. Madugula and Yelamanchili.

Film Chamber representative S. Srinivasa Rao, DPRO V. Maniram, Inspectors Ammaji and District Cable TV Nodal Officer B. Satya Kumar were among those who attended.
