South takes honours

TRIUMPHANT: South Zone, winner of the Col. Hemu Adhikari Trophy.

Bangalore: South Zone, needing 69 more runs overnight with six wickets intact, collapsed before Kaushik Gandhi pulled it out for a one-wicket win in the Col. Hemu Adhikari trophy (under-19) cricket tournament final against North at the RSI grounds here on Thursday.

Kaushik lost his overnight partner Rahul and with wickets tumbling at the other end lashed out to remain unbeaten on 70 along with last man Lalith Mohan.

Jayant Yadav with six for 57 was the chief tormentor for South with his off-spin.

The scores:

Final: North Zone 137 and 332 lost to South Zone 287 and 186 for nine in 74.4 overs (K.L. Rahul 57, Kaushik Gandhi n.o 70, Jayant Yadav six for 57).

East Zone 424 and 212 in 77.3 overs bt AIU 263 and 348 in 78.5 overs (Vipin Kumar 118, Gaurav Gambhir 88, Varun Aron four for 74).
