First win for STC (Kurnool)

BANGALORE: STC (Kurnool) snatched its first victory in three matches with a comfortable 2-0 verdict over STC (Calicut) in the South Zone SAI inter-Hostel football tournament for boys at the football Stadium, here on Friday.

Kurnool, which had lost to both Bangalore and Chennai earlier, raised its game a couple of notches to virtually outplay the fancied Calicut side.

Sai Karthik put Kurnool ahead slotting home off a penalty in the 22nd minute when a rival defender handled the ball inside the penalty box.

After the change of ends, Sk. Nissar Qureshi bulged the net off a Prabhu Kumar forward punt to put the issue beyond the reach of Calicut, for whom goalkeeper T.P. Rathnesh was simply superb and kept the final margin to just two goals.

Saturday’s is the final day of the round-robin league with Kurnool playing Kollam and Bangalore pitted against Chennai.
