MAHABUBNAGAR: The police resorted to mild lathicharge to disperse farmers who thronged at a fertilizer-loaded lorry near market area in the town on Friday. The farmers had been waiting since morning for the fertilizers and when they came to know that a lorry with fertilizers had arrived at a dealer in the market area, they rushed to the dealer and after paying cash, started lifting the fertilizer bags from the lorry itself. To control the situation, the police cane charged mildly to bring the situation under control. Five farmers were also taken into custody in this connection. Some of the farmers argued with the police on being arrested saying, “we have paid cash for the fertilizers and we are not looting the lorry,” they said. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
