‘Trainee doctor’ deprives youth of chain, mobile

Special Correspondent

TAMBARAM: A youth, admitted in a private hospital in Pallavaram, was tricked and robbed of a gold chain and a camera cell phone on Saturday.

Pallavaram police said Vasanth, working in a software firm, was admitted for treatment of jaundice. On Saturday, a youth, around 25 years old, entered his room and introduced himself as a trainee doctor.

He told the youth that he had to be tested for a possible skin allergy and asked him to wear a gold chain from his mother. When he did so, he asked his mother to meet the chief doctor.

Meanwhile, the ‘trainee doctor’ said the youth did not have any skin allergy and took the five sovereign gold chain from him.

He also borrowed the youth’s mobile phone and pretended to speak to the chief doctor and went out of the room.

When the mother went to the chief doctor’s room, she was informed by the nurse that there was no trainee doctor in the hospital who was attending to patients.

Only when she returned to the room did they realise they had been tricked. Pallavaram police are investigating.
