AHMEDABAD: The Bangalore-Jodhpur express train was detained for more than three hours at the Vadodara Railway Station on Saturday following a bomb hoax. The Railway police along with the bomb squad and sniffer dogs searched the entire train but found nothing. Meanwhile, passengers in an unreserved compartment in the Mumbai-Rajkot Saurashtra Mail helped the Railway police to seize bags of illicit liquor and arrest two women bootleggers, as well as one of the ticket checkers for being drunk while on duty. Some passengers said they had noticed the women enter the compartment with two huge gunny bags at the Vapi Railway Station and placed them in the toilet. Suspecting foul play, the passengers locked the women along with the bags in the toilet and summoned railway officials. They alleged that the railway officials were not co-operative. One of the ticket conductor was found drunk and the passengers locked him up also in another toilet. As the train entered Surat , the passengers did not allow the train to proceed further and demanded the Railway police to intervene. The Railway police found huge quantities of foreign-made liquor in the gunny bags and arrested the women. The TC was also detained for questioning, a railway spokesman said. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
