Three killed in road accidents

BANGALORE: Three persons were killed in road accidents reported in the city on Saturday and Sunday.

Channiah, 45, a labourer was killed after he was run over by a lorry near Saibaba General Hospital on Whitefield–Varthur Road on Sunday.

According to the police, Channaiah and another labourer, Nagaraj (18), were travelling in a tractor that was being used for carrying waste. As the tractor was negotiating road humps, a lorry came and hit it from the rear. Channaiah fell off the tractor and came under the wheels of the lorry. Nagaraj suffered fracture. Both were moved to a private hospital, where Channaiah died.

The K.R. Puram traffic police have registered a case. A search is on for the lorry driver.

A 23-year-old man riding a motorcycle was killed after his vehicle was hit by a sand-laden lorry near the Kengeri checkpost in Byatarayanapura traffic police on Saturday. The police said the victim Shivashankar was returning home in Sanjay Nagar when the accident occurred. Shivashankar was killed on the spot.

Munavar Aziz, 38, riding a motorcycle was killed when he was hit by a vehicle near Basavanagudi police station on Saturday. The police said Aziz was going back home after finishing work at a printing press in Vasant Nagar. Aziz died on the spot. The Basavanagudi traffic police are on the lookout for the vehicle.

Remanded

Shivakumar (30), who reportedly took away a Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus on Saturday, was remanded to judicial custody for 15 days. He has been charged with “reckless driving” and also “stealing the bus”.

Shivakumar boarded the BMTC bus going to the Koramangala National Games Village. He posed himself as a BMTC staff and the conductor did not collect the bus fare.

All the passengers, including Shivakumar got off the bus at the last scheduled stop. When the bus driver and the conductor stepped out of the bus, Shivakumar boarded the bus and took it away. He, however, hit a car and two autorickshaws before dashing it against the wall of a storm water drain after which the bus came to a halt.

A traffic constable immediately rushed to the spot and caught the driver. Two cases have been booked against Shivakumar, one in Viveknagar police station and the other in Ashok Nagar traffic police station. He was produced before a city magistrate who remanded him to judicial custody.
