Commendable

Jammu & Kashmir Governor N.N. Vohra’s decision not to pursue the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board’s request for the forestland diverted to the Board for raising facilities for pilgrims (June 30) is commendable. It will not only put an end to the ongoing protests in the State but also prevent political parties from indulging in a divisive game. I hope the Governor’s decision will help to restore normality in Kashmir.

With Mr. Vohra announcing the withdrawal of the SASB’s claim, one can heave a sigh of relief. As the editorial “Sense prevails in Kashmir” (June 30) says, governance should be freed from the clutches of religious and chauvinistic elements.

It is worthwhile to remember that J&K is an integral part of India. The Centre should not indulge in minority appeasement just because elections in the State are round the corner. What ecological harm can pre-fabricated structures built on a piece of land cause?
