Inter-district tournament from today

Dindigul: The TNCA inter-district U-22 tournament will get underway at two centres — Theni and Nagapattinam — on Tuesday and at five more centres — Dindigul, Coimbatore, Karaikudi, Cuddalore, and Kanyakumari — on Wednesday.

The 30 participating teams have been divided into seven zones (two zones of five teams each and the rest with four teams each) for the league phase (first stage).

The winner and runner-up of each zone from the first stage (14 teams) will play in the two-day knock-out matches in the second stage. The winners of the second stage (seven teams) will play the quarterfinals, with one team getting a bye, into the third stage. The knock-out semifinals (fourth stage) will be three-day matches and the final (fifth stage) also will be of three-day duration. — Sports Correspondent
