Rain, winds damage houses, crops

KASARAGOD: Heavy monsoon rain and accompanying strong winds occurring in the district from Sunday inundated many low-lying areas and damaged houses and agricultural crops. Sea erosion has also been reported from some places.

Flood waters entered several houses in Madhoor panchayat near Kasaragod municipality. Several houses were damaged because of the floods.

The Madhuvahini river flowing through the panchayat is in spate. Floodwater also entered the Madanantheswara temple, Madhoor.

Widespread damage to agricultural crops have been reported from Mulleria locality on the eastern part of the district. Areca nut and banana plantations in the area were the worst hit. Power supply was disrupted in several areas.

Sea erosion had been reported from Thai beach, Kanhangad, and beaches in Ajanoor, Uduma and Chittari. Several coconut trees in those areas were uprooted by surging tidal waves.
