CHENNAI: An independent audit of the uninterrupted power supply (UPS) system handling railway reservation servers in Chennai has been ordered. S. Anantharaman, Chief Commercial Manager (Passenger Marketing) of Southern Railway, said had ordered an independent audit through the Chief Electrical Engineer to analyse the state of the UPS system. He said the reservation system crashed on June 13 and 23 due to a problem with the UPS system. The Passenger Reservation System was blacked out for 90 minutes and the Unreserved Ticketing System for 15 minutes. The short outage time of the UTS was because there was ‘volume shadowing’ — a backup of all the data of the Chennai server — in Secunderabad. Mr. Anantharaman said he was planning a similar backup for the PRS. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
