Haryana fixes transfer fee charge for purchasers of society flats

Special Correspondent

CHANDIGARH: The Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Haryana, has asked all the managing committees of the cooperative group housing, house building or maintenance societies not to charge more than Rs.10,000 as transfer fee from newly-inducted members/bona fide purchasers who have bought flats from the original members of the housing societies.

A letter issued by the Registrar of Cooperative Societies states that by-laws of the societies should be suitably amended immediately and the compliance report sent to his office.

Suitable action would be taken against the management of any society demanding more than Rs.10,000 as transfer fee.

The field officers have been directed to immediately redress the grievances of the members in this regard.

All the concerned societies would pass a resolution to this effect within 30 days and in the event of failure, the concerned Assistant Registrar, Cooperative Societies would be competent to allow the transfer of share of new members against the payment as ordered above and this amount would be deposited in the account of the society.

An official spokesman saidthe decision has been taken to bring about uniformity in the transfer fee being charged by the various managing committees of the cooperative group housing societies.

It has been observed that the cooperative group housing societies are charging heavy amounts of Rs.1 lakh or above as transfer fee from the transferees which results in litigations and also forfeiting the basic idea of cooperative group housing societies of providing houses/flats to their members at the cheapest cost, he added.
