NSA to brief SP leadership

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Ahead of the crucial meeting of the United National Progressive Alliance (UNPA) on July 3 when the Samajwadi Party is slated to take a position on the Indo-U.S. nuclear deal, National Security Adviser M.K. Narayanan will brief the SP leadership on the 123 Agreement on July 2.

The meeting assumes significance as the SP has for several weeks now maintained that it will be willing to revisit its opposition to the deal if the government provides fresh information. This was reiterated by SP chief Mulayam Singh after he met Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary Prakash Karat on Tuesday.

Interacting informally with journalists after the meeting with Mr. Karat, SP general secretary Amar Singh stressed the need for secular forces to remain united.

“A division in secular forces will be harmful for the country.”
