Deadline for IPI entries extended

NEW DELHI: The India Chapter of the International Press Institute has extended the deadline for submission of entries for the IPI India Award for Excellence in Journalism, 2008, up to July 15, 2008, following requests from media organisations. The original deadline was June 30, 2008.

Instituted in 2003, it is the most prestigious media award in India.

The award is open for both print and electronic media organisations and individual journalists, and recognises the best work done by an organisation or an individual “in furtherance of public interest, including the safeguarding of the freedom of the press and other freedoms such as human rights.”

It carries a cash prize of Rs. 2 lakh, a trophy and a citation. An eminent jury headed by Dr. Justice A. S. Anand, former Chief Justice of India and former Chairman, National Human Rights Commission, would consider the entries and decide on the awardee.

The India Chapter of IPI is an active forum of editors, publishers and senior executives of newspapers, news agencies, magazines, and takes up issues relating to freedom of the press.
