DAVANGERE: Siddeshwar, Davangere MP, has written to the Government urging it to sell the Bhadra Sugar Factory at Doddabathi near Davangere to private entrepreneurs so that the factory would be re-started to benefit its large number of employees. It would also benefit farmers growing sugarcane in the region. Mr. Siddeshwar has, in the letter, said that the factory had closed down in 2003. It owed Rs. 40 crore to its employees and to sugarcane farmers. The factory was not in a position to settle the arrears of its employees nor was it able to settle the bills of sugarcane farmers. It was now impossible to revive the factory in the cooperative sector, he has said. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
