Suspected thief arrested

CHENNAI: A suspected thief who allegedly stole the wallet of a bus passenger was arrested by the Teynampet police here on Friday.

Police said Gnani (24) of Ayanavaram was proceeding to T. Nagar from Mint in a Metropolitan Transport Corporation bus when he realised that his purse was missing.

On information, the crew stopped the bus and blocked both exit points. The police were called in to check the passengers. At this juncture, one of the passengers jumped out and tried to escape.

Police chased and apprehended the suspect, Sundaraj (27) of Adambakkam, who was in possession of the purse containing Rs. 6,000. He was taken into custody.
