Inter-country adoption allowed in State

NEW DELHI: The Central Adoption Resource Agency (CARA), under the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development, on Friday, has recognised the Andhra Pradesh Department of Women Development and Child Welfare (DWDCW) to place children for inter-country adoption.

Though the DWDCW is already functioning as the adoption co-ordionation agency, inter-country adoption from the State was banned since 2001-02.

But now, with the recognition as the placement agency, it will be able to allow more and more orphans, special children and abandoned ones to join loving and caring families.

This would benefit NRIs (non-resident Indians) from the State who are staying abroad and want to adopt children from their own State as also foreign prospective adoptive parents.

A CARA press release said this is a major step to deinstitutionalise orphan, abandoned and surrendered children in the State for their placement with loving and caring families.
