Student run over by city bus

KOCHI: An 11th standard student of Darul Uloom School, Pullepady, was run over by a private bus near the Ernakulam Town Hall bus stop on Friday morning.

The City Traffic Police said that Fazini T. M. (16), daughter of Mohammed Kutty, Minas Manzil, KMP Road, Palluruthy was getting down from the bus around 9 a.m. to go to school when she fell on the road. The bus ran over her and she could not be saved despite being taken to the nearby Specialists’ Hospital. Her body was laid to rest at 4 p.m. The driver and other workers of the bus escaped from the accident scene. The police registered a case under Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code against the driver Rajesh of Rajakkad; conductor Balakrishnan of Pattimattom and door checker Rony of Piravom, said K. B. Venugopal, Assistant Commissioner of Police (City Traffic). Quoting a passenger who came forward as witness, Mr Venugopal said the driver and other workers forced her to get off the bus .” The driver and other workers of the bus who escaped were later arrested by police in the evening.
