Delhi Metro likely to sign MoU with Indonesia

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, which carried out its first international consultancy project in Jakarta, is likely to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Indonesian Government for sharing technical know-how about the mass transit system.

Jakarta, which is also building a mass transport system like the metro, will seek DMRC expertise in areas like economic operational viability studies as the Delhi Metro is one of the few metros in the world making an operational profit.

Senior officials from Indonesia visited the Delhi Metro on Friday to experience the system and discussed the possibility of DMRC providing consultancy assistance for the proposed metro project in Jakarta.

According to DMRC officials, a delegation of 10 officials, including Indonesian Assistant Deputy Minister for Transportation Mesra Eza, representatives of the Jakarta Transport Council, the proposed Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit System, and the Indonesian Economic Development Board met DMRC Managing Director E. Sreedharan and other officers to discuss the possibility of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation providing consultancy assistance.
