New building to house Central government offices

To be inaugurated by Union Urban Development Secretary

Kozhikode: M. Ramachandran, Secretary, Union Ministry of Urban Development, will inaugurate the new building for Central government offices at Kallai on Monday.

The offices that are likely to be shifted to this building are that of the Regional Filaria Research Centre of the Ministry of Health and Family Planning; Regional Director, Central Board of Workers Education; Assistant Commissioner of Special Bureau; Assistant Executive Engineer, Central Water Commission; National Sample Survey Organisation; Central Public Works Departments (CPWD); Directorate of Marketing and Inspection and the Department of Enforcement Directorate.

The six-floor 5,549 sq.m. building built at a cost of Rs.8.95 crore is equipped with facilities for rain water harvesting and recycling of sewage water.

The building has ramps with stainless steel railings and specially-designed fittings in the toilets to provide easy access for physically challenged persons.

The ground floor has a staff car park, canteen and kitchen. The first to fourth floors are earmarked for office space. It has guest rooms and a seminar hall on the first floor.

The building is fitted with two lifts with a capacity of 13 persons each, three staircases, a 250 KVA standby generator, energy-efficient lighting, separate transformers, automatic street and lawn lighting, centralised telephone conduits, fire alarm system and a public address system.

The construction of the building was under the supervision of S. Chinnaswamy, Chief Engineer, CPWD, Bangalore. H.S. Dogra, Director General of Works, CPWD, New Delhi, will also attend the inauguration of the building.
