Local bodies can protest: IUML

‘They are expressing people’s mood’

Kozhikode: The local bodies which have come out against the controversial social science textbook are only expressing the mood of the people, Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) State general secretary P.K. Kunhalikutty has said.

“This is a democratic form of protest. It is undemocratic to challenge the authority of local bodies to protest,” Mr. Kunhalikutty said in a statement on Saturday.

The League leader said the agitation against the textbook was being waged by Muslim organisations.

“Muslim League is only one of the organisations involved in the protest,” he said.

He said the comments about the agitations by Minister Paloli Mohammed Kutty and T.K. Hamza, MP, amounted to ridiculing the sentiments of the Muslims. The communists cannot rule by trampling on the religious beliefs of any community, he said.
