Poncha makes the cut

BANGALORE: Rehan Poncha smashed his way past the Olympic ‘B’ qualifying mark in the 200m butterfly, clocking a personal best and a National record time of 2:01.40s to qualify for the Beijing Games.

Poncha’s effort came in final of the event at Telstra Australian Grand Prix at Sydney where he placed fifth overall. In the process, he also broke the 22-year-old record of 2:02.38s by Khazan Singh at the Seoul Asian Games in 1986.
