Jammu: With the law and order situation improving, curfew was relaxed during the evening hours even though there were scattered protests against the cancellation of the Baltal land diversion order. Day curfew remained in force in Jammu, Bhaderwah, Samba and Kathua. Jammu city remained peaceful barring a few protests. There were a few incidents of stone-throwing on police vans in Kathua but the situation was largely under control. The Jammu-Pathankot National Highway remained closed for traffic. In the evening curfew was relaxed in the old city from 5.30 to 6.30 p.m. In the new townships south of Jammu city, curfew was relaxed from 7.30 p.m. to 8 .30 p.m. BJP president Rajnath Singh and other party leaders visited those injured during the protests. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
