CHENNAI: V.T. Anubharathi of Neyveli Lignite Corporation defeated P. Divya (Maharishi Vidya Mandir) 11-9, 12-10, 9-11, 12-10, 11-4 in a sub-junior girls’ quarterfinal match of the Shri Vaishnavi Productions and G.V. Films Private Limited 5th State-ranking table tennis tournament at SDAT-Chandra Academy here on Saturday.

Dhilipan and Naffrullah Khan starred in the Young Challengers Football Club State-level tournament on Saturday, setting up wins for Don Bosco Annai Youth and City Police respectively.

Dhilipan scored twice in the 3-1 win over Students Club Tiruchi. Vinayaga Murthy was Don Bosco Annai Youth’s other scorer. Hari Shanmugam found the back of the net for Students Club.

In an earlier match, Naffrullah Khan’s brace helped City Police defeat CSF Kancheepuram 2-0. Seven Star Ayyanambakkam, meanwhile, did not turn up for its match against Rangoon FC.

In Friday’s matches, YCFC Pattabiram defeated Cuddalore XI 2-0, while Pandiyan Sudeshan edged out Madras Eagles 6-5 on penalties after the teams failed to find the net in regulation time.

The UC MAS-Singaram Pillai all-India tennis tournament (talent series) will take place from July 27 to August 2 in the under-14 and 16 age groups at the Singaram Pillai Tennis Centre.
