Emphatic win for Vignesh SC

Dindigul: Riding on a 192-run stand between brothers M. Abdur Rahim (95) and M. Mohamed (92 not out) for the third wicket, Vignesh Sports Club carved out an emphatic seven-wicket win over St. Peters CC in the Dindigul DCA first division league here on Sunday.

The scores: St. Peters CC 230 for seven in 39 overs (R. Karthik 41, T. Mahendra Kumar 68 not out) lost to Vignesh Sports Club 231 for three in 33.4 overs (M. Mohamed 92 not out, M. Abdur Rahim 95).

Manikandan wins

S.S. Manikandan of Dolphin Matriculation Higher Secondary School and A. Seethalakshmi of Lady Doak College won the boys’ and girls’ titles respectively in the Madurai District under-19 chess championship organised by Chanakya Chess Academy at Madurai on Sunday.

In the district-level open tournament A. Prathish of Velammal MHSS won the under-14 title while, G. Redemptor of Jeevana School won the under-10 title.

Final standings (under-19 championship) Boys: 1. S.S. Manikandan (Dolphin) 4.5/5, 2. S. Ganesh Babu (Thiagarajar Arts College) 4.5, 3. G. Yogesh (Dolphin) 4, 4. V.R. Arvind Chidhambaram (Dolphin) 4.

Vinayaka triumphs

Vinayaka Matriculation HSS lifted the Airtel and Rafeek Trophy defeating YRTV Matriculation HSS 9-8 in the final of the Virudhunagar District inter-school handball championship at Sivakasi on Sunday.
