Varun and Lasya emerge champions

VIJAYAWADA: Hyderabad’s V. Varun and Vijayawada’s G. Lasya emerged winners in the boys’ and girls’ sections respectively in the AP State under-13 chess tournament that concluded at Cosmo Cultural Sports Complex at Palakole on Sunday.

Varun garnered six points while G. Lasya hauled five points to top the table. Praveen Kumar and G. Aishwariya finished second under the progressive scoring.

The results: Boys (sixth round): V. Varun 6 bt P.V.S.M. Praveen Kumar 6, M.D. Reddy 6 bt Y. Grahesh 5, S. Manoj Sainath 6 bt M. Deeraj 5, P. Tejesh 6 bt S. Sricharan 5, M. Suryanarayana 5.5 bt Y. Sri Sanketh 5.

Girls: G. Lasya 5 bt B. Pratusha 4, G. Aishwariya 5 bt Y. Mounica 3, V.S.S. Priya 4 bt P. Sirisha 3, R. Shalini 3.5 drew with K. Priyamvada 3.5, S. Priyanka 3.5 bt M. Vidya 3.

Secretary’s XI posts win

K. Harish (six for 62) and Atchuth Kumar (four for 27) helped ACA Secretary’s XI score a two-wicket victory over ACA President’s XI in the ACA Central Zone under-19 selection match that concluded here on Sunday.

The scores: ACA Secretary’s XI 202 and 165 for eight 45.4 over (Rishi Choudary three for 44) bt ACA President’s XI 189 and 174 in 50.5 overs (B. Sudhakar 47, K Harish six for 62, Atchuth four for 27). — Sports Reporter
