Government to promote low-cost building material

Thiruvananthapuram: Minister for Housing Benoy Viswom said here on Tuesday that the State government would promote the manufacture and distribution of materials for low-cost housing.

Speaking after a discussion with trade union leaders on the development and integration of district Nirmithi Kendras, he said moves were on to develop technology for the manufacture of low-cost construction materials. He said the Kerala State Nirmithi Kendra (KESNIK) would tie up with the central building research institute to develop this technology. The government will also conduct training for workers in the construction sector, he added. The meeting decided to improve the technology and quality of work taken up by Nirmithi Kendras. The best Nirmithi Kendras at the district and regional levels would be presented with awards on the World Housing Day.

The meeting also resolved to improve the existing system for manufacture of construction materials and extend the marketing network to all districts.

MLAs N.Rajan, V.S.Sunilkumar and M.Prakasan, Housing Commissioner Noel Thomas and KESNIK director G.Harikumar participated in the meeting.
