Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan said that P. Ramachandran, former Polit Bureau member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), had played an unforgettable role in building the party and its class and mass organisations. He had to undergo many sacrifices for setting up the progressive students movement in Malabar. The Chief Minister added that he had the opportunity to work with him for a long period in the Central Committee and Polit Bureau of the party. Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan described Mr. Ramachandran’s demise as an irreparable loss to the labour movement. He was the major inspiration for the mass struggle taking place for wiping out the caste discrimination in force in Tamil Nadu. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
