Form panel for promotion of teachers: Tamil Nadu Graduate Teachers’ Association

MADURAI: Members of the Tamil Nadu Graduate Teachers’ Association staged a demonstration at the office of Chief Educational Officer here on Tuesday, demanding deletion of tough portions in the tenth standard syllabus in the interest of students.

They urged the State Government to conduct one more round of transfer counselling for B. Ed./high school teachers as was already done for other categories of teachers.

S. Baskaran, association district secretary, told reporters that an assurance was given earlier to lighten the syllabus burden in X standard but it was yet to be announced. “For Plus Two, the portions were removed twice whereas the demand for tenth standard syllabus reduction has not been looked into so far,” he said.

The association’s State secretary, M. Muthiah, called for the formation of a promotion panel for high school teachers and also filling up of vacancies of Government high school headmaster/teacher posts.

M. Xavier, district president, and other members spoke.
