S. Railway does well

Chennai: Southern Railway teams posted wins in the IOB-SRM senior division volleyball championship at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium on Monday.

The results: Men: S. Railway bt SDAT 25-16, 26-24, 25-16; Indian Bank bt BSNL 25-19, 25-15, 25-19; IOB bt Central Excise 25-12, 25-9, 25-11. Women: S. Railway bt Armed Police 25-18, 25-13.

Force 1 wins

Force 1 triumphed in the Peepee-SSCA Twenty20 summer cricket tournament played here.

The scores (final): Force 1 158 for nine in 20 overs (Murugan 43, Vignesh four for 18, Sajjad Hussain three for 21) bt Ojas Cricket Club 136 in 19 overs (Vignesh 29, Syed 39, Ramesh three for 15, Prabhu two for 19).

Open chess tournament

Tamil Nadu Chess Association will organise the third S.K. Narasimhan Memorial all-India Open tournament at the J.N. Stadium from July 22.

The FIDE-rated tournament offers total prizemoney of Rs. 50,000 of which the winner’s share will be Rs. 15,000.

The tournament will be played under the Swiss System and registration with All India Chess Federation is mandatory for participants.

Entries close on July 19.

Table tennis tournament

The Indian Audit and Accounts Department (South Zone) table tennis tournament will be held on July 9 and 10 at Officers of Accountant General (A&E), 36, Teynampet, Chennai-18. Teams from AG’s Offices from TN, Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh will participate in the tournament.
