BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday adjourned further hearing on petitions from residents of several cities of the State challenging the decision of the civic bodies to implement the self-assessment of tax (SAS) system. The petitioners contended that the SAS could not have been implemented under the provisions of the Karnataka Municipalities Act. They said the SAS is illegal and ultra vires the Constitution. They had urged the court to stay the scheme. A Division Bench comprising Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice Keshava Narayana adjourned further hearing on the case. — Staff Reporter © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
