BJP to contest all seats on its own

VIZIANAGARAM: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with relatively no strength in the State, has decided to contest all the seats in the forthcoming elections on its own.

The party, however, would welcome any political party that is ready to join hands with it in the elections, said its national executive committee member and chairman of State election management committee K. Haribabu.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Dr. Haribabu hoped that anti-Congress voters would rally behind the party. With the breaking away of the Samajwadi Party from the UNPA, there was no scope for a third front. Hence, the fight would only be between the BJP-led NDA and the Congress-led UPA in the ensuing elections, he said, and added that the NDA had already named L.K. Advani as its prime ministerial candidate whereas the UPA was still not in a position to announce its nominee.

He demanded that the Manmohan Singh Government prove its strength in Parliament before approving the nuclear deal or any other major issues.

Party State SC Morcha president Paka Raja Rao, State executive committee member K.V.V. Gopala Raju, Parliamentary coordination committee member P. Sanyasi Raju, district president K.V.N.R. Prasad and general secretary B. Siva Prasad Reddy were present.
