Mission admission: Students completing formalities at Daulat Ram College of Delhi University on Wednesday. NEW DELHI: The fourth and final cut-off list for admission to Delhi University released late on Wednesday night offers hope to those keen on pursuing Commerce. Seats in both B.Com. (Honours) and B.Com. (Programme) courses are still on offer in institutions like Aditi Mahavidyalaya, College of Vocational Studies, Lakshmi Bai College, Motilal Nehru College, PGDAV College (both morning and evening), Ram Lal Anand College, Satyawati Co-educational College, Shivaji College, Sri Aurobindo College (evening), Vivekananda College and Zakir Husain College (evening). While B.Com. (Hons) is by now shut in most colleges, there is a ray of hope for students who can pursue the same at Hans Raj College and Hindu College at 93-94 and 93.25-96.25 per cent, respectively. Daulat Ram College and Kirori Mal are also offering seats in this course. “Since there are a lot of aspirants for Commerce, colleges operate in a safety mode while making admissions. Commerce is still open in the second-rung colleges because there is a lot of vertical movement and students who have taken admission to them tend to opt for better colleges when they meet their cut-offs,” said a senior University official. “As far as top colleges like Hans Raj and Hindu College are concerned, they do not have very many seats left in B.Com., which is why there is only a minor drop in their fourth cut-off list. Most importantly, with the internal assessment coming in, colleges are playing safe while making admissions as they do not want to over-admit students that may later become a liability in the wake of faculty crunch and limited infrastructure,” he noted. Only a few coursesThe fourth admission list offers only a few Arts courses at colleges for the general category students. Lady Shri Ram College has announced a fourth cut-off in three courses: Mathematics (Hons), Statistics (Hons) and Philosophy (Hons). “We are nearly full in these courses but we would like to take in a few more students as some of them may withdraw later on to study B.Com. or Economics in other colleges after the fourth list,” said media coordinator Kanika Khandelwal. Institutions like Indraprastha College for Women, Sri Venkateswara College and Miranda House have closed their admissions in most Arts and Commerce courses, but have issued a fourth list for the Other Backward Classes. English (Hons) is still available at Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College, Deshbandhu College, Zakir Husain College and Hindu College. Apart from English, Hindu College has declared a fourth cut-off in four other Humanities courses, namely, B.A. (Prog.), History (Hons), Mathematics (Hons) and Sociology (Hons). History (Hons) can be pursued at Janki Devi Memorial College, Kirori Mal, Motilal Nehru College, Shaheed Bhagat Singh College and Zakir Husain College. Seats are also available in Political Science (Hons) at some colleges like Dyal Singh, Maitreyi and Ramjas, while Economics (Hons) is still an option for students at CVS, KMC, PGDAV and Ramjas. Among Science courses, several colleges have come out with a fourth cut-off list in some courses, registering a small decrease. Hans Raj and Sri Venkateswara have closed admissions in all Science course barring one or two. Hindu is still offering Chemistry (Hons), B.Sc. Physical Science and B.Sc. Applied Physical Science. Nearly all colleges have issued a fourth cut-off for the OBCs in most of the courses, offering up to 10 per cent relaxation in some programmes. At Miranda House, B.A. (Prog.) is available at 68.75-74.75 per cent, while History (Hons) can be pursued for 68.5-71 per cent. At Hindu College, English (Hons) for OBCs is available at 74-83 per cent, while Ramjas is offering Economics (Hons) at 77.5-87 per cent. Eligible candidates will have to complete admission formalities in the colleges concerned between July 11 and 14. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
