KOLKATA: The West Bengal government will soon move the Centre for tripartite talks to resolve the stalemate in the Darjeeling hills arising from a demand by the Gorkha Janamukti Morcha for a separate State. The request will be made as per a plea by GJM president Bimal Gurung that a meeting involving the Centre be held before the monsoon session of Parliament, Home Secretary Ashok Mohan Chakravarty said. The GJM demands a State to be carved out of Darjeeling district and contiguous areas. © Copyright 2000 - 2009 The Hindu |
