Fire stations to be revamped

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, on Thursday said all fire stations in the Capital would be modernised with specialised equipment.

Inaugurating a newly constructed fire station at the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation complex in Bawana here, the Chief Minister said it was becoming necessary to set up new fire stations as large-scale multi-storey buildings and colonies were coming up several areas in the Capital.

“We have decided to increase the number of fire stations up to 70 during the 11th Five Year Plan period. Plots for 26 fire stations have been identified whereas 15 are under constructions. Other fire stations at Rohini Sector-15, Sector-5, Tahirpur, Sarita Vihar, Mangolpuri and Jwalaheri are almost complete,” added the Chief Minister.

Firemen lauded

Ms. Dikshit commended the role of fire personnel who have been curbing fire tragedies and providing safety to the people.

“The Government has set up Disaster Management Centres at Laxmi Nagar, Rohini and Nehru Place fire stations. Six hundred fire protective suits have been procured for the staff,” said the Chief Minister.

Local MLA Surendra Kumar expressed his gratitude to the Chief Minister for providing a well-equipped fire station in his constituency.
