Power shutdowns order of the day

With monsoons playing truant this season, power shutdowns have become the order of the day.

Despite the best of the efforts by the authorities, adjusting the available production across the needs has become increasingly difficult. Hydel power which can be banked on for immediate use in times of crisis has gone dry thanks to the dipping water levels in the reservoirs. Haphazard growth of the city is another reason for the crisis.

A little thought, if put into the design of majority of the buildings in the city, would have spared a great amount of power usage.

Most of the buildings do not have proper sources of natural lighting and aeration, in turn, encouraging the use of tube lights and air conditioners all through the day.
